The book was very helpful in describing how to correctly place features on a person's face when drawing it - in the past, I'd just drawn features as I went along. I'm pretty happy with this one, considering it took about 45 minutes to do. A couple of minor complaints: again, I've cut made the drawing too large for the page and have cut off the back of the man's head; I used a 2B pencil, which I'd never done before, and ended up smudging the nose and mouth area a bit; I'm not too happy with the shading on the cheek and neck area, but I was hurrying to finish, and thought I'd leave it as is, since that was the end of that. Still, I'm happy with the likeness of this man, whoever he is.

Thank you, Andrew. The more I look at it, the more I don't like the curve of the top of his head, and I think his ear might be a little big. But I'm still happy with the likeness.
Yes, this is very nice work.
I will say that I'm glad that you noticed the ear. However, I would say that I think you may have subconsciously squished it a bit to make it fit on the paper.
Thanks, Tommy. I think you're exactly right. I've been using a sketchbook that's about 5x7 and for portraits, it always ends up being too small. I realize now that the ear is squished, and I'm glad you pointed that out. I think I'll get a larger sketchbook for the rest of the exercises. Thanks again!
I tend to see the mistakes that I myself make a lot.

I got myself a larger sketchbook to work with and I'm much happier with today's lunchtime sketch. I'll post it in the next day or two.
